#1972: Program #1972

New Sounds | May 24, 2010
Listeners may already be familiar with Kevin Volans because of his piece “White Man Sleeps,” re-worked for and recorded by the Kronos Quartet in the 1980’s. Lately, Volans has begun to focus on eliminating subject matter, clearing the musical canvas, so to speak, with results that are fascinating to hear. On this edition of New Sounds, the South African-born Irish composer visits the studio to discuss his recent works, the lingering South African influence in his music, and the contemporary music scene in Ireland.
