Fred Frith’s suite Freedom in Fragments was written for and performed by the Rova Saxophone Quartet, and comprises a series of short compositions that can be played in whole or in part and in any given sequence. In the CD liner notes, Frith says that he wanted to write compositions "which could reach their narrative potential by a force of accumulation...small stories that, when heard together, become big stories." Also on the program, we hear Jeremy Peyton Jones’s North South East West; Aksak Maboul’s 1977 Onze danses pour combattre la migraine; music by Procede Rodesco-Letort, and more.
