Sharpton to Convene Another Meeting About Paterson

Gov. David Paterson faces a new set of questions today as Albany reacts to the allegations that he lied under oath about getting free Yankees tickets. Tonight, Rev. Al Sharpton is convening a group of black Democratic leaders to discuss the shifting sands in Albany.

There have been many calls for Paterson to resign, but so far his strongest support has come from Harlem leaders. The group 100 Blacks in Law Enforcement, for one, is backing Paterson and urging an end to the "rush to judgement."

Paterson insists he's done nothing wrong.

Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver says the mounting allegations surrounding Paterson are serious and he needs to address them now.

"I think he should address them and address them head on," Silver says. "But at this point, we have a budget and I think we can't be sidetracked from doing the job that the people sent us here to."

The state faces a nearly $9 billion budget gap. Paterson recently said he may have to withhold payments to schools and hospitals just to keep the state solvent.
