Bloomberg Accepts City Council's Vote on Armory

Mayor Michael Bloomberg says he will not try to save a plan to turn a vacant Bronx armory into a shopping mall. This comes after Monday's vote in the City Council rejected the redevelopment project.

"Unfortunately, that building will probably be vacant for a long time into the future and those jobs have just gone away. And it's really sad because if you look at the unemployment rate in the Bronx, I think it's the highest of any county in the state," Bloomberg says.

The mayor is focusing his attention on other big redevelopment projects that are going forward, including one in Willets Point, Queens, and Brooklyn's Atlantic Yards. He was at a groundbreaking ceremony in Queens today for a new police academy in College Point.
