Dems Denounce Giuliani's Comments in Support of Bloomberg

WNYC News | Jul 12, 2010

City Democrats are denouncing comments former Mayor Giuliani made in support of Mayor Bloomberg as race-tinged and fear mongering. WNYC's Bob Hennelly has more.

REPORTER: At a Sunday breakfast in Borough Park, Brooklyn, former Mayor Giuliani assured Jewish Community leaders that Mayor Bloomberg's re-election was the way to insure that City crime rates didn't return to the levels they were before Giuliani came to office.

GIULIANI: This community remembers the fear, and the worry, and the crimes.

REPORTER: Later in the day Mayor Bloomberg tried to make the case that New York City could be vulnerable to going the way of Detroit.

Mayoral candidate Comptroller Thompson took exception.

THOMPSON: I think it is unfortunate that the Mayor and Rudy Giuliani have resorted to the politics of division, the politics of fear.

REPORTER: Back in 2001 Giuliani's endorsement was pivotal for Mayor Bloomberg. During the last mayoral debate the Mayor said Giuliani would make a good Governor. For WNYC I'm Bob Hennelly.
