Reward Offered in Bias Attack

WNYC News | Jul 12, 2010

The NYPD is offering a $12,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of suspects in an alleged bias attack against a Mexican immigrant. Police say Mario Vera was beaten so badly that he can't remember where or when the incident occurred. The construction worker who has lived in the U.S. for nearly 20 years sustained brain damage in the attack and has been hospitalized since October 1st. Police say Vera was on his bike when he was attacked sometime between 1 and 4 p.m. on September 23rd while returning from lower Manhattan to his home in the Bushwick, Brooklyn. Police say three men who beat Vera shouted anti-Mexican slurs.
