Three Veteran Councilmembers Ousted by Angry Voters

WNYC News | Jul 12, 2010

Incumbent council members Maria Baez of the Bronx, and Tom White of Queens will have to wait until September 21st to find out if they kept their seats. That's when the city's Board of Elections certifies yesterday's results.

Today, elections officials start tabulating more than nine thousand absentee and affidavit ballots. The unofficial tally shows Baez and White trailing their challengers.

Three veteran councilmembers -- Alan Gerson, Kendall Stewart and Helen Sears -- were ousted by angry voters. All three had voted in favor of changing the city's term limits so they, and the mayor, could run again.
