JFK Runway Reconstruction Project Begins

WNYC News | Jul 12, 2010

One of JFK Airport's runways will be shut down for four months next year for renovations, that are intended to reduce delays. Governor Paterson says the slowdown caused by the renovation, will be well worth it in the long run.

PATERSON: As long as there are slight delays, it would be a sacrifice well worth making because of the improvement, and it will be stellar improvement in the service.

REPORTER: The $376 million project is being partially funded by federal stimulus money. Paterson says it will create 2,500 jobs. Construction is expected to begin this Fall.
