Bloomberg Dislikes State Senate MTA Plan

Mayor Bloomberg says he doesn't like the State Senate's latest plan to bail out the MTA. He says he's particularly upset by a $1 cab ride surcharge, that would be equally split between mass transit, and road and bridge improvements for Long Island and Upstate New York. But he insists he won't insert himself into the debate, after Assembly Democrats killed his congestion pricing proposal.

BLOOMBERG: The city came up with a plan, and Albany didn't like that plan and said they would do something else. I don't want to get so involved so that it becomes, 'It's the city plan again.'

The revenues from congestion pricing were supposed to go to the MTA. Senate Democratic Majority Leader Malcolm Smith says all state residents should help pay for road improvements. He expects a vote on the rescue plan next week.
