WNYC News | Jul 12, 2010
New York, NY —
It tells the story of the Yiddish theater under Communism. Chagall painted backdrops and studies for costumes for the theater. Organizer Susan Goodman says the exhibition is also about much more.
GOODMAN: You begin to see that theater is a window into Soviet Jewish life and their experiences definitely parallel the situation for the Jews in the country.

But she also says the theater managed to be a subversive cultural force as well.
