WTC Site Faces More Delays: PA

New York, NY —

Another delay in the rebuilding effort at the World Trade Center site, and more fines for the site's owner, the Port Authority.

The agency says it will pay developer Larry Silverstein between $9 and $18 million, because it will not meet a June 30 deadline to finish the excavation work for the foundation for Tower 2.

Earlier this year, the Port Authority missed deadlines for delivering two other building sites, and paid Silverstein more than $13 million in fines. Governor Paterson has asked agency director Christopher Ward for a reassessment of Ground Zero reconstruction deadlines and budgets by the end of the month.
