Pope Visits Ground Zero

WNYC News | Jul 12, 2010

Pope Benedict XVI visited the World Trade Center site Sunday, offering prayers for those killed on 9/11, and for rescue and cleanup workers who have become ill since the attacks. The pontiff invited 24 people with ties to ground zero to join him, including survivors, victims' relatives and first responders. After arriving at the site in the popemobile, the pontiff knelt in silent prayer for a few moments, then rose to light a memorial candle.
