Baby Girl Abandoned in Livery Cab

WNYC News | Jul 12, 2010

A livery driver is being called a hero after he brought a baby girl abandoned in the back of his car to a nearby firehouse.

Police say Klever Sailema picked up a passenger in Queens. Several blocks later, the man asked the driver to stop so he could make a phone call. The man got out and disappeared, leaving an infant behind.

Sailema dropped the baby at Engine Company 289 and Ladder Company 138 in Corona.

The driver will be honored at the TLC's annual driver recognition ceremony next month.

Officials declared the baby to be in excellent health and are asking for the public's help in finding her relatives.
