A Train Incident Injures Transit Worker

A subway motorman was taken to St. Vincent's Hospital after a southbound M train leaving City Hall-Chambers Street struck a bumper block at the end of the station at around 11 o'clock this morning. New York City Transit says the train was not in passenger service.

REPORTER: The operator was briefly trapped in his car but he was not seriously injured and a conductor walked away unscathed. Deputy Fire Chief Mike O'Keefe says it took about 20 minutes to shut down the power.

OKEEFE: The initial reports were that there was a collision between 2 trains and that ended up not being the case. There was a train at the station and the effective train was in the tunnel by about 75 feet so there was no collision.

REPORTER: New York City Transit says two cars on the M train were damaged but that train did not derail. The Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall subway station is open for service but the M train has been extended to Broad Street.
