Bloomberg Apologizes to Zadroga Family

Mayor Michael Bloomberg has apologized to the father of a police detective he had described last week as “not a hero” because of questions about his death following his work on the World Trade Center cleanup.

BLOOMBERG: I certainly apologize to the family for my comments, and I committed to the family we will find a dignified way to honor his son’s sacrifice.

REPORTER: The city's Chief Medical Examiner recently concluded that James Zadroga's fatal lung disease was not from trade center dust but because he had been injecting himself with ground-up pills.

The ruling meant the police detective would not be included on the official list of victims and his name would not be etched on the memorial wall. Now, Bloomberg says those who die of 9/11 related illnesses will be remembered.
