Man Convicted in Death of Michael Sandy

WNYC News | Jul 12, 2010

A Brooklyn man has been convicted of manslaughter and hate crimes charges in a deadly attack on a gay man at a Sheepshead Bay beach. John Fox was one of two young men on trial for their roles in last year's assault on Michael Sandy, who was chased into traffic during a mugging and was hit by a car on the Belt Parkway.

A second jury is considering similar charges against a second member of the group, Anthony Fortunato. A third suspect, Ilya Shurov, is awaiting trial. The fourth defendant, Gary Timmons, took a plea deal in exchange for his testimony.
