Celebrity A-List to Attend Astor Funeral

An A-list of movers and shakers will convene on Friday to say goodbye to socialite and philanthropist Brooke Astor.

Guests invited to her funeral at Saint Thomas Episcopal Church on Fifth Avenue include Martha Stewart, Harry Belafonte, Renee Fleming, Whoopi Goldberg, Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg, Nancy Reagan and former President George Bush and his wife, Barbara.

Astor died of pneumonia Monday night at 105 and is to be buried in a cemetery in Sleepy Hollow, near her estate overlooking the Hudson River. In her will, Astor wrote the epitaph to be inscribed on her tombstone: "I had a wonderful life."

Immigrants' stories have been unfolding on an off-Broadway stage in an uncommon way. One is of a doctor in her 40s who fled Zimbabwe. Another featured a Colombian woman who regretted leaving her homeland for the United States. A third entered into a marriage of convenience with an American after overstaying her visa, and then suffered a violent assault in the subway.
