Systemwide Transit Delays Due to Severe Flooding

WNYC News | Jul 12, 2010

Transit officials are advising people to avoid the subways and delay their commute due to systemwide delays and closures...

NYC Transit Spokesman Paul Fleuranges says the delays were compounded by flooding of the sewer system.

FLEURANGES: At times like this when so much water falls within the city. I think it was three inches in an hour. We can't pump the water that we are pumping out into the system becomes that system becomes overwhelmed.

Metro North says service has been restored on its New Haven and Harlem lines into Grand Central. Service had been suspended on the two lines because of flooding on the tracks in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx.

On the Hudson line southbound service is running and there is limited northbound service.
