Profitable Relationship Between Officials, Yankees

WNYC News | Jul 12, 2010

Rudy Giuliani and several former city officials earned money as consultants to the Yankees after they left office, according to a report from the watchdog group, Good Jobs New York. The former officials helped the Yankees win approval and subsidies for their new stadium.

REPORTER: The study claims approval for the stadium was unfairly expedited and that 22-acres of South Bronx parkland was unfairly taken. Joyce Hogi, of the community group Save Our Parks, says the report confirms what Bronx residents already knew - that officials sped the Yankees through the city's land use process, known as U-LURP.

HOGI: The report validates the community's concerns about how this plan was put together. About how former elected and appointed officials use their insider knowledge to push the project through the U-LURP process.

REPORTER: A Yankee spokeswoman dismissed the report. She says the new stadium has created thousands of jobs and helped local businesses.
