Seat Belt Campaigns Begin

An aggressive seat belt enforcement campaign begins today in New Jersey. Traffic safety officials hope residents will learn from Governor Jon Corzine's April crash.

Corzine was severely injured in the accident, which occurred when his state trooper-driven SUV slammed into a guardrail after going 91 mph in a 65 mph zone. The governor wasn't wearing his seat belt. The "Click It or Ticket" enforcement campaign is slated to last from today through June 3rd. During last year's campaign, 56,300 tickets were issued. New York also begins a crackdown today.

The driving season shifts into high gear with the Memorial Day weekend coming up.
