Indian Point Reactor Back on

WNYC News | Jul 12, 2010

The Indian Point 3 nuclear power reactor is back in action after a mechanical problem shut it down for nearly a day. Officials say there was no danger to the public or workers during the shut-down and no radiation was released.

Indian Point 3 is one of 2 nuclear reactors now running at the Indian Point power plant. Workers shut it down shortly after 4 am Tuesday morning because of a problem with a water pump that feeds the plant's steam generators. An official with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission says the shut-down followed established procedures.

He says the agency hasn't identified any problems there but will do a follow-up inspection.
