Municipal Officials Arrested on Corruption Charges in NJ

A bribery sting run by New Jersey's US Attorney Christopher Chrisitie has lead to the arrest of 14 municipal officials on corruption charges. WNYC's Bob Hennelly has more.

REPORTER: Most of those charged today worked for the Paterson Housing Authority but Christie's sting also included employees of the Passaic Valley Water Commission and Paterson's municipal court.

US Attorney Chris Christie:

CHRISTIE: These bribes that were paid by our cooperating witness to these officials went for everything from approvals to one guy who was taking 5O dollar bribes keeping the water turned on.

REPORTER: The highest ranking official charged was Benny Ramos, deputy director of Paterson's Section 8 housing program. Chrisite says he admitted to taking as much as $1OO,OOO in bribes over the last several years.
