New York, NY —
A gunfight in a Harlem restaurant last night ended with a man dead and a plainclothes police officer shot. Police say the plainclothes officer was with 3 fellow officers when they responded to a 911 call at 9:30 last night of a man with a gun at Cafe 22.
Police Commissioner Ray Kelly says when the officers entered the restaurant, they attempted to arrest the man, but a struggle ensued. The suspect was able to pull a firearm and shoot at one of the officers, grazing his abdomen and striking his ankle. Kelly says at least 2 officers returned fire, hitting the suspect at least 4 times.
The 25-year-old man, who was not identified, was taken to Harlem Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
