Staten Island Assemblyman Dies

State Assemblyman John Lavelle of Staten Island has died, less than a week after suffering a stroke.

He collapsed after he gave a speech January 18th. Mayor Bloomberg says Lavelle was a tireless advocate for the people of Staten Island and all of New York. Recent bills he authored include the one that creates tougher penalties for the possession of loaded illegal guns. John Lavelle was 57.
