Renowned Ballet Teacher Dies

A longtime teacher at the School of American Ballet has died. Antonina Tumkovsky trained future dancers for the New York City Ballet.

George Balanchine founded the school, and the legend is he hired Tumkovsky on the spot in 1949 when she applied for a teaching position. Antonina Tumkovsky died Friday at a nursing home in Valley Cottage, New York. She was 101.
