Atlantic Yards Vote Expected Soon

The vote on the approval of Brooklyn's controversial Atlantic Yards development project is coming down to the wire. Dozens of neighborhood coalitions are making a last-minute push to delay the deal. WNYC's Elaine Rivera has more.

Tomorrow the state's Public Authorities Control Board is scheduled to vote on whether construction of Atlantic Yards will begin. Representatives for neighborhood groups are aggressively lobbying top elected officials to halt the vote.

The opponents say the developer Forest City Ratner has not been forthcoming about the actual financial costs that the project would incur. They contend the financial projections for the development's infrastructure appear arbitrary and confusing. A spokesman for the developer declined to comment.

It would be the biggest development project the borough has ever seen. Forest City Ratner has proposed building several mixed-use high rises and a professional sports arena. For WNYC, I'm Elaine Rivera.
