MTA Meets to Approve Budget

WNYC News | Jul 12, 2010

The MTA is meeting to approve a budget today that does not include any fare hikes or toll increases for next year. The MTA gets money from real estate deals and with the hot market it has a budget surplus.

Some of that money will go for new police radios, emergency training and for repainting 200 subway stations. One other item that will be discussed today is an effort by one board member to ban alcohol on trains. Mitch Pally says drunk driving is too much of a problem to let passengers drink on their way home.

Commuters can buy drinks at Grand Central and other stations before getting on board Metro North and the LIRR. The sales generate $350,000 in annual revenue budget.
