Costs Force Fulton Street Transit Center Delays

WNYC News | Jul 12, 2010

Concerns over rising costs have forced the MTA to delay the scheduled opening of the new Fulton Street Transit Center in Lower Manhattan. When it's done, the project will link up 12 different subway lines. It was supposed to be finished in June of 2009 but it's now expected to open in October of that year.

An MTA spokesman says estimates for the $847 million dollar project have soared to almost $890 million because of rising construction costs and real estate values.

The MTA has now hired a consultant to look into ways of reducing the price tag for the final design, which also has been delayed a couple of months and is expected in February.
