Hybrid Taxis Coming to Town
WNYC News | Jul 12, 2010
New York, NY —
Six hybrid taxis are now on the streets of New York City. The hybrid cabs get double the gas mileage of traditional cabs and generate far less pollution.
The new cabs run on a combination of gas and electricity and emit little exhaust when they are moving slower than 25 miles per hour. But passengers will have a little less leg room and a narrower back seat.
One taxi fleet owner said he plans to have 18 of the environmentally friendly cabs on the street by Thanksgiving.
