Remembering Jam Master Jay

WNYC News | Jul 12, 2010
Family, friends and fans of Jason Mizell, better known as "Jam Master Jay", will say a final goodbye today. Jay's funeral service will be held in Queens. He was shot to death in his studio last week. Police continue to investigate the murder. The 37-year old DJ was a member of the groundbreaking rap group Run DMC -- the first crossover rap act to climb the pop charts back in the mid-1980's. The group's lyrics touted their rhymes, their "shell top" Addidas sneakers and their thick gold chains - but did not in any way celebrate violence. During the day's following Jay's death, fans and neighbors came together on street corners in Hollis Queens to remember the artist and the man.
