New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine cut the ribbon Monday on a new rail line that will link the Meadowlands Sports Complex into New Jersey Transit's regional rail network. For now the train will operate on days when there are football games or big concerts at the Meadowlands arena -- events that draw about 50,000 people. The train line can handle up to 10,000 people an hour with a 23-minute travel time from Hoboken. Originally the train line also was going to serve Xanadu, the controversial entertainment complex across the concrete parking lots from the stadium. But progress on the $2 billion project is stalled. New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority Chair Carl Goldberg says that Xanadu's backers are trying to resolve financing issues and still plan to finish their project.
