Hundreds of thousands flocked to Duisberg, Germany last month for Love Parade, one of the most popular dance music festivals in the world. More than 20 of those people didn’t make it out alive. Charles Hawley , editor of Spiegel Online International, explains how a celebration of youth and peace devolved into a crowd-control catastrophe that left 21 dead and hundreds more injured.
