GIg Alert: Charlie Hunter

Music Hub | Sep 7, 2010

Charlie Hunter
"Antoine"
Playing at: Cameo Gallery
(93 N. 6th St., Williamsburg)
Get: Tickets | Directions

Looks like Williamsburg’s Cameo Gallery just scored big. Tonight marks the start of its Tuesday-night residency with Charlie Hunter,  the jazz guitarist renowned for, mystifyingly, playing guitar and bass parts at the same time on a special 7-string guitar he designed for that purpose. Hunter will be joined each week by a rotating cast of musicians: tonight, it's Michael R. Williams on bass trumpet (what in the world is a bass trumpet?), and Eric Kalb on drums. “Antoine” is a laid-back, New Orleans-style tune played over a funky horn ostinato. Lest you leave unimpressed, remember who is playing those bass lines.
