Born in Koblenz, Germany, Gus Kahn (1886-1941) immigrated as a child with his family to Chicago. He went on to write for Tin Pan Alley and Vaudeville and wrote the lyrics for such classics as "Ain't We Got Fun," "Toot Toot Tootsie (Goo' Bye)," "Makin' Whoopee," and "Dream a Little Dream of Me."
