American Ballet Theater is premiering a new work tonight called Lifted, which they describe as aiming to “highlight, amplify, and celebrate Black creative voices.”  It features an all-Black cast of dancers from the ABT, with music composed by Carlos Simon, to be conducted by Roderick Cox. Carlos Simon is currently composer in residence at the Kennedy Center, and he’s from a family of preachers, who expected him to follow in the family business. But Simon says that music is his pulpit, and there's a work of his, called “Amen!” Composer Carlos Simon's new music for the American Ballet Theater’s piece Lifted will be performed with the dancers Oct. 27-29 at the Koch Theater at Lincoln Center.
