Described as "a Serious Album about Serious Topics," actor and comedian Tim Heidecker joins us to discuss his latest folk-rock inspired record, Fear of Death. Ruminating on subjects related to mortality, the album sees Heidecker working with lauded collaborators like Weyes Blood and The Lemon Twigs.

A new documentary tells the story of how the creation and erasure of a local mural catalyzed an anti-gentrification coalition in Oakland, California. Director Spencer Wilkinson joins us to discuss the film, "Alice Street," which is screening at Urbanworld Film Festival. The festival runs from September 23rd to September 27th.

Jamiles Lartey, New Orleans-based staff writer for The Marshall Project, joins us to discuss the news that one officer was indicted in the Breonna Taylor case and charged with three counts of wanton endangerment. Lartey's recent reporting includes a dive into the complexities of the Breonna Taylor case and why Kentucky law makes it so difficult to arrest the police officers who shot her.

MoMA PS1 reopened on September 17th, with author and Professor of American Studies and Art History at Rutgers University Nicole Fleetwood's exhibit, "Marking Time: Art in the Age of Mass Incarceration." Featuring art made by people in prisons and work by nonincarcerated artists concerned with state repression, erasure, and imprisonment, this major exhibition explores the centrality of incarceration to contemporary art and culture.

[REBROADCAST FROM OCTOBER 17, 2020] Reginald Dwayne Betts, a poet, author, and lawyer who was also formerly incarcerated, joins us to discuss his new book of poetry, Felon.
