Kevin Young, director of the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture and poetry editor at the New Yorker, joins us to discuss editing the new anthology, African American Poetry: 250 Years of Struggle & Song.

In the second of five conversations, principal researcher Tamara Payne for the new biography, The Dead Are Arising: The Life of Malcolm X, describes the impact that being in foster homes had on a young Malcolm X, what took him to Boston and then New York – and how he ended up in jail at the age of 20, where he joined the Nation of Islam.
