
Exploring Chinatown with Grace Young, 'Vegetarian Chinese Soul Food,' The Hold Steady, 'Pelé'
Lunar New Year will feel a little different this year in NYC’s Chinatown as it fights to return in the time of COVID. James Beard-winning chef Grace Young will join us to discuss Lunar New Year traditions and highlight some local spots in Chinatown that do these traditions well. She’ll also discuss her initiative to help businesses affected by the lockdowns.
Award-winning food journalist and cooking instructor Hsiao-Ching Chou joins us to discuss her new cookbook Vegetarian Chinese Soul Food, a vegetarian follow-up to her Chinese Soul Food cookbook that includes 75 plant-based comfort food recipes.
Brooklyn band The Hold Steady recorded their eighth album Open Door Policy in upstate New York in 2019. Rolling Stone calls it “yet more proof that Craig Finn is one of the most vivid songwriters in rock.” Band members Craig Finn and Franz Nicolay join for a Listening Party on the album’s release day.
A new documentary sheds light on the life of a soccer legend. Directors David Tryhorn and Ben Nicholas join us to discuss their film “Pelé,” which features extensive interviews with Pelé himself. The documentary premieres on Netflix on February 23.
