NYT Cookbook, Jasmine Mans, Lake Street Dive, Messages for Your 2020 Self
Sam Sifton, food editor of The New York Times and founding editor of NYT Cooking, discusses The New York Times Cooking No-Recipe Recipes, the debut cookbook from the website and its app. The book has over 100 ideas for dishes meant to inspire -- all without specific measurements. Cooks are encouraged to add, subtract, and adapt the recipes to their own diets and palates.
Spoken word poet and poet-in-residence at the Newark Public Library, Jasmine Mans, joins us to discuss her new collection, Black Girl, Call Home, which details her experience growing up Black and queer in Newark, New Jersey.
On Lake Street Dive’s seventh album, Obviously, the Brooklyn-based band worked with Grammy-winning producer Mike Elizondo, whose breadth of expertise includes bluegrass, rock, and hip-hop. Lead singer Rachael Price and keyboardist Akie Bermiss join us for a “Listening Party.”

Josh Gondelman, comedian, executive producer of the late-night talk show series, “Desus & Mero,” and host of the podcast Make My Day, joins us to take calls from listeners about what they wish they could tell their 2020 selves, and about what they’ve learned or accomplished in the past year that they will take with them into the future. This segment will also be preserved in WNYC's 2020 Time Capsule, which will be stored next to the WNYC transmitter at the Empire State Building and opened in 2030.
