'Producer Picks' Week: Lake Street Dive, Robert Finley, Arlo Parks, Arooj Aftab, and Emile Mosseri
All this week, we present "Producer Picks." Each day, a member of team All Of It curates their favorite recent conversations and tells some behind-the-scenes stories. Today's picks come from our Producer Simon Close.
[REBROADCAST FROM March 15, 2021] On Lake Street Dive’s seventh album, Obviously, the Brooklyn-based band worked with Grammy-winning producer Mike Elizondo, whose breadth of expertise includes bluegrass, rock, and hip-hop. Lead singer Rachael Price and keyboardist Akie Bermiss join us for a “Listening Party.”
[REBROADCAST FROM May 21, 2021] On his third album, Sharecropper’s Son, blues singer Robert Finley recalls the sounds and stories of his childhood in Louisiana. After becoming legally blind and retiring from his job in carpentry, Finley released his studio debut at age 62 in 2016. The new album was produced by The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach, who also produced his 2017 follow-up. Finley joins us for a "Listening Party."
[REBROADCAST FROM February 2, 2021] West London songwriter Arlo Parks first gained attention in 2018 with the breakthrough single, “Cola.” In January, she released her full-length debut, Collapsed in Sunbeams. She joins us for a "Listening Party."
[REBROADCAST FROM May 4, 2021] On the album, Vulture Prince, Brooklyn-based musician Arooj Aftab sets poetry to stirring orchestrations that fuse jazz, Pakistani folk, classical, and other musical genres. Aftab joins us for a "Listening Party."
[REBROADCAST FROM April 23, 2021] Composer Emile Mosseri, known previously for his work on “The Last Black Man in San Francisco” and “Kajillionaire,” was nominated for an Oscar this year for Best Original Score for his work on “Minari.” He joins us to discuss his work on the film.
