'POTUS', Shaina Taub, Roe v. Wade Call in, Period Tracker Explainer, Review/Preview: Audiobooks
A new comic play tells the story of seven women who work closely with the President of the United States, attempting to help alleviate a massive global crisis he inadvertently caused. Playwright Selina Fellinger joins us to discuss, "POTUS: Or, Behind Every Great Dumbass are Seven Women Trying to Keep Him Alive," which is playing now on Broadway at the Shubert Theatre.
Composer and performer Shaina Taub is the creator of the hit off-Broadway musical, "SUFFS," and stars in the show as Alice Paul, one of the leaders of the suffragist movement and the campaign for the 19th Amendment. Taub also recently released the solo album, Songs of the Great Hill, inspired by the Central Park meadow where she would take daily walks. She joins us to discuss both projects.
In the wake of a leaked Supreme Court draft opinion overturning the abortion rights enshrined in Roe v. Wade (1973), listeners call in to tell us how they've been moved to action. Shefali Luthra and Chabeli Carrazana, reporters from The 19th, join to help take those calls and bring context from their reporting.
When The Supreme Court opinion draft addressing Roe v. Wade leaked to the public, some social media users started posting about how users of period trackers and ovulation apps should consider deleting them from their cell phones. Recode's Sara Morrison joins to explain this idea, and why privacy laws may need to be passed to protect women's rights, especially if Roe v. Wade is reversed.
Are you going back to work in the office and commuting again? New York Times book editor Lauren Christensen joins us for a Review/Preview to share her picks for the best audiobooks to listen to.
