"God's Creatures," Fall Activities, Banned Books, "MUD/DROWNING" Returns

All Of It with Alison Stewart | Sep 22, 2022

A new film explores the lengths a mother will go to in order to protect her son, even in the wake of disturbing allegations. Emily Watson stars as Aileen, a woman from a small Irish fishing village thrilled when her son (Paul Mescal) returns. But when a woman in town accuses her son of sexual assault, Aileen is faced with some difficult choices. "God's Creatures" was directed by Saela Davis and Anna Rose Holmer, who join us to discuss, alongside Emily Watson. The film premieres in select theaters and on demand on September 30.

It's fall, and what better time to escape the city and check out the corn mazes, apple farms and pumpkin patches, just a quick drive or train ride away. We'll get the low down from the editor of Westchester Family magazine and the founder of MontclairGirl.com.

Headlines about "book bans" have become more and more commonplace over the past months and years, targeting mainly works by Black and Queer authors, which they consider not to be "age appropriate" reading material for youths. Emily Drabinski, president-elect of the American Library Association for 2023-24, joins to discuss.

[REBROADCAST FROM MARCH 2, 2020] JoAnne Akalaitis and Philip Glass join us to discuss Akalaitis's double bill, "MUD/DROWNING." The production features the work of María Irene Fornés, including Philip Glass’ transformation of her five-page play, "Drowning," into an opera, and a version of Fornés’s, "Mud." Both are directed by Akalaitis with new music composed by Glass. "MUD/DROWNING" is returning to Mabou Mines for a limited run from September 24 to October 9.
