Love and Loss in Modern Day Russia

Midday on WNYC | Jan 11, 2018

Writer/director Andrey Zvyagintsev discusses his new film Loveless. It tells the story of Russian couple Zhenya and Boris who are going through a vicious divorce marked by resentment, frustration and recriminations. Already embarking on new lives, each with a new partner, they are impatient to start again – even if it means threatening to abandon their 12-year-old son Alyosha. Everything changes when Alyosha disappears after witnessing one of their fights. Loveless opens on February 16 and will be shown at MoMA on January 12, along with a retrospective of his work over that weekend.
