#3688: Asian Voices
Listen to Asian voices on this New Sounds from the non-dominant cultures such as those of Tibet, Persia, the island of Taiwan, and from the large Buddhist community of Siberia. There’s music from Tibetan devotional singer Yungchen Lhamo, both apart and together with the Russian pianist and composer Anton Batagov. Also, listen to the vocal polyphony of the Wulu Bunun people of Taiwan, anchored by David Darling’s cello and other soundscapes. Then hear music by Jamshied Sharifi, sung in Farsi and featuring classically trained Iranian singer Mamak Khadem. Plus, music from the Mongolian bluegrass/folk-rock band Hanggai and more.
