Ask Governor Murphy: Why New Jersey is expanding access to birth control

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy delivers his State of the State address to a joint session of the Legislature at the statehouse, in Trenton, N.J., Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2023.

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy says making birth control pills and other contraceptives available without a prescription is the right thing to do.

"Especially for those who do not have ready access to the primary care needed to get a prescription," Murphy said during a bill-signing ceremony last month. "And that is a big chunk, sadly, it's a big chunk of our population."

Could New Jersey be the most progressive state in the nation? We’ll talk about that — and take your calls — on the next Ask Governor Murphy, Thursday, Feb. 2 at 7 p.m. on WNYC.
