The Tragedy of Apartheid Becomes Personal in Athol Fugard's 'Master Harold ... and The Boys'

The Leonard Lopate Show | Nov 21, 2016

Writer and director Athol Fugard discusses the revival of “Master Harold"… and The Boys, winner of the Drama Desk and London Evening Standard Awards for Best Play. Set in a South African tea shop in 1950, two black men and a white boy joke and dance together, defying apartheid. But issues of family, oppression and institutionalized racism are always just under the surface.

The play has been extended through December 11 at the Signature Theatre (480 West 42nd Street).
