'Bitter Honey': a Portrait of Polygamous Marriage

Filmmaker Robert Lemelson discusses his documentary “Bitter Honey,” an intimate portrait of three polygamous families in Bali, Indonesia. The film delves into the lives of Balinese co-wives, for whom marriage frequently involves psychological manipulation, infidelity, domestic violence, and economic hardship. "Bitter Honey" aims to spark a wider conversation about contemporary polygamy and women’s rights in Indonesia. The film opens October 31 at the IFC Center.
