#3685: Blues-Based Guitar Works
Listen to a complex decoction of Gypsy, Middle Eastern, and Indian influences from American composer, guitarist and singer Sir Richard Bishop for this New Sounds. There’s also desert blues from the forthcoming fourth solo record by Malian guitarist Samba Touré, a protégé of the late Ali Farka Touré. Then listen to Mississippi blues with a nod to Mauritanian griot music from the duo 75 Dollar Bill. Hear music from Kaki King from her record, “Glow.” Plus, hear from the late Egyptian guitarist Omar Khorshid, who played with the legendary Oum Kalthoum. Khorshid also ran the gamut from Egyptian classical suites to belly dance music. Listen to his “Veil Dance,” from a collection of belly dance music, and more.
