Robert Bernstein, founder of the organization that became Human Rights Watch, 25-year president of Random House and the author of (with Doug Merlino) Speaking Freely: My Life in Publishing and Human Rights (New Press, 2016), talks about his life and work in publishing and human rights advocacy.

Bernstein shared stories from the early days of publishing - like when he hired a new young talent named Toni Morrison as an editor.
