Bonus Weekend Podcast: Yevgeny Yevtushenko, James Rosenquist, Timothy Pigott Smith

The Leonard Lopate Show | Apr 15, 2017

Over the past few weeks, we were saddened to learn that three former guests of the show had passed away. Yevgeny Yevtushenko was a rock star of a poet – who used his work and acclaim as a means to confront Russia with its war atrocities. In 1993 he came on the show, the first big celebrity we booked in our early days. He died recently at the age of 83. In 2008 Leonard spoke with pop artist James Rosenquist, who delighted in blurring the lines between "high" and "low" with a bold graphic style, using techniques he'd learned as a billboard painter to create gigantic works. He also died recently at the age of 83. And just a little over a year ago Timothy Pigott Smith came on our show to discuss his star turn in the Broadway production of “King Charles III” – an imaginary look at a time when the Queen of England had died. He passed away recently at the age of 70.
